OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Wintry weather has arrived in Oklahoma and forestry officials say it's the perfect time to order tree seedlings and shrubs for planting this winter.
The Oklahoma Forestry Services nursery has begun taking orders for seedlings that are specifically selected to thrive in Oklahoma's harsh climate.
State Forester George Geissler says Oklahoma's seedling planting season runs from December through April and fall is the best time to prepare the planting site to make the planting job easier. Geissler says getting trees in the ground while they are dormant is critical to their survivability during summer.
The forestry services nursery is located south of Norman. It grows more than 30 types of trees and shrubs from local seed sources. Trees in stock this year include bald cypress, chokecherry and northern red oak.
