Firefighters in Oklahoma have brought a large grassfire near Woodward under control while fires also burn in northeastern Oklahoma.
No injuries or significant damage have been reported.
Woodward Fire Chief Steve Day said a fire Wednesday about 5 miles south of Woodward and burned slightly more than 1 square mile. Fires also burned in Oklahoma, Lincoln, Pottawatomie, Washington and Nowata counties.
The American Red Cross has set up a post in Lenepah in Nowata County to provide water, snacks and meals to first responders.
Gusty winds that fanned the flames are also blamed for downing power lines in northeastern and western Oklahoma that left thousands without power during the afternoon. Public Service Company of Oklahoma reported about 1,800 outages shortly before 7 p.m. in parts of eastern Oklahoma.
