Western Governors to Discuss Drought Challenges

KWGS News

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Governors from across the western United States are heading to the National Weather Center in Norman for a two-day forum on how drought conditions are affecting the energy industry.

An initiative of Western Governors' Association Chairman Gov. Brian Sandoval of Nevada, the two-day forum begins Thursday and will include a welcome from Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin.

Thursday's discussion will include a presentation from Oklahoma Climatological Survey director Kevin Kloesel. Officials from Oklahoma City-based energy companies such as Continental Resources and Devon Energy Corp. also are expected to discuss how drought affects their businesses.

Among the topics scheduled for discussion on Friday are solutions and technologies used by the energy industry to reduce the amount of water used in business operations.
