Weleekta Fire Update

By Associated Press

Weleetka, OK – Investigators to question boy who survived fire

TULSA, Okla. (AP) The state Fire Marshal's office plans to interview the 8-year-old boy who survived a Monday morning house fire in the town of Weleetka that left six people dead.

Assistant State Fire Marshal JoAnne Sellars said Tuesday that the boy, Tavis Southern, is "very important to talk to" because he could help pinpoint where the blaze erupted and how it spread.

Investigators still don't know what caused the fire, but say it does not appear to be suspicious.

On Monday, Tavis said he tried to wake others in the home while his mother worked the overnight shift at a nursing home. He ran to a neighbor's house for help, and they called 911.

The boy was treated for smoke inhalation at a hospital and released.
