Welcome Home

Tulsa, OK – Two hours of music, free ice cream and refreshments and other activites are planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday as Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor and the Jack C. Montgomery Veterans Medical Center and a host of veterans' organizations join to stage "Welcome Home Day."

"We want military personnel and veterans and their families to know we appreciate their work and the sacrifices they make," said Mayor Taylor. "We created the Veterans Advisory Council as soon as I took office, and we have implemented many programs to help military members and veterans and their families."

"I want to invite all current and former military members to this event to be recognized for what they do for all of us," the mayor said.

"We're excited to be a part of this Welcome Home concert," said Adam Walmus. Montgomery VA Medical Center director. "The Mayor's office, my staff, the veterans service organizations and other sponsors have done an outstanding job at putting together a well-deserved tribute to the men and women who have served this nation so bravely. I hope this is a tradition that continues."

Live music, free ice cream and refreshments will be provided at the event and there will be a variety of activities and displays for veterans and their families. Inflatable recreation equipment will be available for children. The Oklahoma Army National Guard will provide a climbing wall.

Local military reserve and National Guard units will provide a display of military vehicles and equipment. World War II re-enactors will be dressed in period uniforms.

And the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will have personnel and information on hand to answer questions or explain a variety of veterans benefits and health care options.
