Weekend Rain Causes Flooding Problems at Commerce

COMMERCE, Okla. (AP) — Heavy rains have produced flooding in Oklahoma and numerous homes in the town of Commerce have water damage.

Commerce Emergency Management Director Ernie Shelby says there are no reports of injuries, but some streets were closed after about 4.3 inches of rain fell in a 30 to 45 minute period starting shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday.

Commerce is in Ottawa County — about 95 miles northeast of Tulsa.

The National Weather Service in Tulsa also reported flooding in Osage, Pawnee, Kay and Logan counties with more than 4 inches of rain recorded since midnight in Red Rock in north-central Oklahoma.

The weather service said rainfall and the potential for flooding will continue into Saturday afternoon. Wind gusts of up to 45 miles per hour and dangerous lightning are also possible.
