Weekend Drownings

By Associated Press

Tulsa, OK – Authorities say 2 drowned in Okla. lakes Saturday

Oklahoma authorities say the bodies of two men who drowned in separate lakes Saturday were recovered within hours of their deaths.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said a man drowned about 8 p.m. at Tee Pee Beach on Lake Murray, south of Ardmore. An OHP report said the body of Monserrat Soto Gallardo, 67, of Chihuahua, Mexico, was recovered about 10:30 p.m. by a dive team in about 12 feet of water.

Police said Gallardo was swimming with a relative when a wave sent him under water, and he never resurfaced. The report said Gallardo was reportedly only a marginal swimmer.

In Wewoka, police said dive crews found the body of a 27-year-old man who drowned at Wewoka Lake.

Police said the man whose name hasn't been released was trying to swim across the narrow part of the lake's northwest side. Witnesses told authorities the man went under water around 7 p.m. and never resurfaced. His body was recovered about 11:15 p.m.
