This Week On Performance Oklahoma: Classics 7 "A Night at the Opera" with soprano Sarah Coburn

American soprano Sarah Coburn, known for her captivating performances in opera houses and concert stages around the world, joined music director Joel Levine and the OKC Philharmonic in Classics 7, offered onSaturday, April 2nd, at the Civic Center Music Hall in downtown Oklahoma City, the Oklahoma native and resident featured as the special guest artist in a program celebrating the music of opera.  Offering arias from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Johann Strauss Jr’s Die Fledermaus, Verdi’s La Traviata, Bellini’s I Puritani and Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, the Philharmonic also presented opera overtures by Rossini and Beethoven, and orchestral interludes from operas by Verdi and Mascagni.

Tracing its roots to the city’s first professional orchestra in 1924, theOklahoma City Philharmonicformed in 1988 with the help of dedicated civic leaders and corporations and celebrates 27 years of performances in Oklahoma City.  Under the musical direction of Joel Levine, the orchestra performs Classics, orchestral Pops, and Discovery Family concerts, as well as a variety of community engagements.
