The Week Ahead: Showers Possible Mid-Week in Tulsa

NWS-Tulsa

A  surface ridge will slide east today allowing for a return of southerly winds this afternoon along with warmer temps. The warming trend will extend into Monday and Tuesday...with afternoon highs bouncing back well into the 60s to near 70 by Tuesday.

A dry low-level airmass will remain across the region through Monday, but the persistent southerly flow will eventually bring higher dewpoints/low-level clouds back by Monday night, ahead of the next upper system. Various model guidance suggests that dewpoints in the mid 50s/lower 60s will eventually work back into the region Tuesday afternoon, ahead of the developing cold front/dryline. Expect showers and some thunderstorms to develop and increase in coverage later Tuesday afternoon and into the evening before sweeping east of the area overnight.

Forecast instability looks to be on the low side, although reasonably strong wind shear may be sufficient to support a few severe storms, especially across parts of southeast Oklahoma.

Cooler and drier weather will overspread the area for the remainder of the week, although the airmass doesn't look as chilly as what we're seeing now.

Thanksgiving day still looks quite nice, with a chilly start giving way to afternoon highs in the upper 50s/lower 60s. The next upper system and associated rain chances return for next weekend.
