Oklahoma City, OK – AG warns Okla residents to be wary of scams

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's top prosecutor is warning residents in areas damaged by recent storms to be wary of home repair and charity scams.

Attorney General Scott Pruitt says such schemes are commonplace after natural disasters and that his agency's Public Protection Unit has prosecuted numerous unscrupulous repair workers who prey on Oklahomans.

Pruitt is urging home and business owners to be patient and make sure they are using a reputable home repair contractor. He encourages those with storm damage to deal with local companies when possible and to check out businesses with his office or the Better Business Bureau.

He also says residents should always insist upon a written contract and be wary of those who insist on cash payments up front.
