McAlester, OK – Soldier from McAlester dies in Afghanistan

McALESTER, Okla. (AP) The Department of Defense says a 26-year-old solider from McAlester has died while serving in Afghanistan.

The military said Tuesday that Army Sgt. Jason James McCluskey died Thursday from wounds suffered during a firefight with insurgents at Zarghun Shahr in Afghanistan's Mohammad Agha district.

The McAlester News-Capital reports that McCluskey was a paratrooper. McCluskey was assigned to the 27th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps out of Fort Bragg, N.C.

The newspaper reports that McCluskey graduated from McAlester High School in 2004 and joined the Army in April 2006. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 10 a.m. in McAlester.
