VINITA, Okla. (AP) — A day care center in northeast Oklahoma has shut its doors after a mother reported her two sons were severely sunburned during an outing to a local splash pad.

Department of Human Services spokeswoman Debra Martin said Tuesday the Happiness is a Learning Center day care in Vinita agreed to cease operations. Martin says the state agency and local police are investigating.

Shaunna Broadway told Tulsa television station KOTV that a day care worker let her 5- and 7-year-old sons play outside Friday without shirts or sunscreen. Photographs she took of her boys show their back and shoulders covered with giant blisters.

She said both boys were taken to a Texas hospital for treatment.

A telephone message left at the day care Tuesday wasn't immediately returned.
