Vigil Honors Slain Australian Baseball Player

Facebook

DUNCAN, Okla. (AP) — A vigil has been held to honor an Australian baseball player shot as he ran down a tree-lined road in Duncan last week.

Duncan First Baptist Church hosted the evening event on the Plato Elementary playground for 22-year-old Christopher Lane.

Lane was jogging in an affluent neighborhood of Duncan when he was gunned down at random last week. Three boys— ages 15, 16 and 17 — have been charged in the Melbourne native's death.

Duncan Mayor Gene Brown is set to speak at the event. Local pastors will also lead prayers.

First Baptist Church pastor Bryan Pain says he hopes the event will bring the community together and provide hope to move forward and heal.
