OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has announced a $100 million initiative to improve railroad crossing safety across the state.
Transportation officials announced the initiative along with Gov. Mary Fallin. The program will improve more than 300 rail crossings across Oklahoma and allows for upgraded safety warning features at the crossings.
Fallin said at the news conference that that initiative will help save lives by improving crossing safety.
The funding comes from proceeds from the recent sale of the Sooner Sub rail line and other funds.
Transportation Department officials say they expect to complete a preliminary plan of locations and improvements for the railroad crossings in early 2015.
