Vandals Strike Tulsa County Courthouse

Three glass doors and a window at the Tulsa County Courthouse were damaged by vandals over the weekend.

Tulsa County Maintenance Director Dan Belding said it happened to the Denver Avenue entrance around 8 p.m. Friday.

"Luckily, that is strong glass. It's made out of safety glass, and it doesn't break easily," Belding said. They threw a brick or whatever against it quite a bit, and it didn't break all the way through on any of them."

It will take some time to fix. The doors and window must be measured, because the glass will be made to size.

It could be the end of the week before the repairs are done, and it won't be a cheap fix.

"I would assume, by dollar amount, that it may go up into a felony charge, but I'm assuming — I'm not a district attorney or anything, so I don't know that," Belding said. "We were looking at old estimates that we had from other glass that we had to replace, which we have not had the glass company and give us anything definite yet, but we're looking at between $3,000 and $4,000 in glass alone."

There is a security camera at that entrance. It will be up to the sheriff’s office to investigate.
