Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. gov. signs bill for use of utility vehicles
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Legislation that allows the regulated use of utility vehicles on public roadways has been signed into law by Gov. Mary Fallin.
The new law by Sen. Don Barrington of Lawton and Rep. Tommy Hardin of Madill puts utility vehicles in the same category as golf carts and allows their regulated use under certain circumstances.
Currently, golf carts are allowed on public streets and highways within state parks and municipalities that allow them. They also can be used on roadways in counties where county commissioners have approved such usage.
But they can only be used on roads with a posted speed limit of 25 mph or less and is an unincorporated area with signs that caution motorists of their use.
Officials say utility vehicles are popular around the Lake Texoma area.
