UPDATE: Ten Commandments

By Associated Press

Oklahoma City, OK – Ten Commandments monument could be built in spring

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The director of the Department of Central Services says a Ten Commandments monument at the state Capitol could be built in the spring.

DCS director John Richard told the Capitol Preservation Commission on Thursday that one possible location is north of the Capitol and two others are on the southeast side. Richard is also a member of the Capitol Preservation Commission.

Legislation calling for a privately funded Ten Commandments monument passed during the last legislative session.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Oklahoma opposes the monument saying it believes it violates the separation of church and state. The group says no decision has been made on whether to file a legal challenge to the monument.
