Tulsa, OK – State colleges prepare for swine flu
TULSA, Okla. (AP) As students prepare to return to classrooms and dorms, university and health officials in Oklahoma are preparing for the possible spread of the H1N1 virus, or swine flu.
Health officials say the swine flu has disproportionately targeted teenagers and young adults and schools are likely to experience outbreaks.
The campus health center at Oklahoma State University has a stockpile of supplies and health care workers are prepared to brief students on how to avoid and respond to swine flu.
State epidemiologist Dr. Kristy Bradley says universities and colleges should work with local health officials to develop an acceptable response in case of an outbreak.
The U.S. Center for Disease Control recommends that people in a campus environment who begin to experience swine flu symptoms isolate themselves for seven days.
