Upcoming Republican Goals and Agendas for the Oklahoma State Legislature

Tulsa, Oklahoma – Since statehood in 1907, statewide offices in Oklahoma have been historically dominated by Democrats. While Republicans have been elected to political positions throughout our state's history, it was Henry Bellmon's 1962 election as the 23rd governor of Oklahoma --- the first Republican to hold that office --- that signaled the arrival of a more competitive Sooner State G.O.P. And quite recently, history was made once again with the election of our state's first female governor, Mary Fallin (also a Republican), who will take office on January 10th. But the election held earlier this month was historic in other ways, too, in that it brought the first-ever Republican sweep of state government. Come January, Republicans will hold all statewide offices, and will have control over 2/3 of the State Legislature. What will be the agenda? Where will the priorities reside? What will be the main goals? We'll find out on today's edition of StudioTulsa, as we hear from two individuals soon to assume key leadership roles in Oklahoma City: Rep. Kris Steele, the Speaker-designate of the Oklahoma House, and Sen. Brian Bingman, President Pro Tempore-designate.
