University of Tulsa Selects Health Affairs VP Clancy as Next President

University of Tulsa

The University of Tulsa Board of Trustees appoints Dr. Gerard Clancy as president designate.

Clancy is currently TU’s vice president of health affairs and dean of the new Oxley College of Health Sciences. He will assume his duties as the university’s 20th president on Jan. 1, 2017, succeeding President Steadman Upham, who will retire at the end of this calendar year.

In a statement, the trustees said they are confident they have made the right choice to position TU for the next generation. The trustees call Clancy a proven leader in higher education and a visionary for the Tulsa community who is committed to helping TU students and alumni make a positive impact locally and globally.

Before arriving at TU in 2015, Clancy served as president of the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa for eight years. He and his wife, Paula, have three children Sam, 25, Mary, 22, and Joseph, 17.
