Union JROTC Short of Inaugural Parade Funds

The Union High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps  has been selected to represent Oklahoma in the January 21, 2013, Presidential Inaugural Parade.  The JROTC’s actual participation, however, hinges on its ability to raise $40,000 for transportation, food, and lodging before cadets leave for Washington, D.C., January 17.  As of Monday, January 14, they had collected about half of the funds needed.

Time is so short because the group just received the invitation to participate in the 57th Inaugural Parade during winter break.  When school started again, they hit the ground running, but they really need community support to get there.

Four years ago a different group of Union AFJROTC cadets marched in the parade celebrating the historic first inauguration of President Barack Obama.  Union’s AFJROTC was then---and will be again this year---the only high school level ROTC unit to march.

“It’s a great honor,” said Senior Master Sergeant Dan Snow.  According to fellow instructor Lt. Colonel Ronald McCool, "Any donation -- no matter how large or small -- will help defray costs for the Washington, D.C., trip."

Donations, payable to Union AFJROTC Booster Club, may be mailed to:
