Unhappy High School Seniors

Tecumseh, OK – Tecumseh seniors don't like graduation move

TECUMSEH, Okla. (AP) Some Tecumseh High School seniors are not happy with the school board's decision to hold the May 19 graduation ceremony at the school's football field.

The board voted 3-2 in March to move the ceremony from Raley Chapel at Oklahoma Baptist University where the ceremony has been held since the 1980s. Students asked the board to reconsider but board President Michelle Edwards did not include the item on the agenda.

Calls to Edwards were not returned.

Graduating senior Dani Ozment told The Oklahoman she thinks the ceremony would lose some of its respect on the football field.

School Superintendent Tom Wilsie said the there is some concern about a Connecticut court ruling that says a graduation ceremony in a church amounts to an unconstitutional government endorsement of religion.
