Oklahoma City, OK – Eastern Okla. counties have highest jobless rates

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Counties in eastern Oklahoma continue to have the highest unemployment rates in the state.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission said Wednesday that Latimer County had a jobless rate of 10 percent in June, well above the statewide rate of 5.3 percent and the nationwide rate of 9.2 percent. Latimer County's unemployment rate in May was 9.1 percent.

McCurtain County was second with an unemployment rate of 9.5 percent, followed by rates of 9.3 percent in Okmulgee and Sequoyah counties.

In comparison, the lowest jobless rates are in western Oklahoma.

The lowest unemployment rate was 3.0 percent in Roger Mills County.

Beaver County had a jobless rate of 3.2 percent and the unemployment rate for Dewey and Ellis counties in June was 3.4 percent.
