Tulsa Zoo's Lost Kingdom Exhibit Taking Shape

Tulsa Zoo’s new Lost Kingdom exhibit is on track for an anticipated May 2017 opening.

Vice President of Development Lindsay Hutchison said work is coming right along despite a surveying error earlier in the project that may cost the zoo more than $2 million.

"We've been really lucky to have these wonderful weather days that have helped us catch up, so we're right now getting ready to put a lot of the glass viewing panels in and finish some site work," Hutchison said.

The 3-acre exhibit needed several fixes after the error initially set floors low enough that buildings could flood.

"It's the first major exhibit of the 20-year master plan, and so this is going to kind of signify to our guests the first type of exhibit that we're hoping to build as we rebuild the entire zoo," Hutchison said.

Lost Kingdom’s total cost is around $21 million. Some of the zoo’s current residents, like snow leopards and siamangs, will move there. They’ll join some new species, including red pandas.

The exhibit exhibit includes an overhead walkway tigers can take between different areas.
