Tulsa Zoo Sets March Attendance Record

March was a big month at the Tulsa Zoo.

The zoo had its highest March attendance in its 87-year history, with 91,891 people visiting.

Zoo staff think the dinosaur exhibit Zoorassic Park 2 and the new rhino exhibit brought a lot of people in. Community Relations Manager Sarah Floyd said they're still working on the rhino exhibit.

"We actually moved our rhinos to the Mary K. Chapman rhino reserve in November, and while it is open, we're still making changes to the exhibit," said Floyd. "Soon, guests will be able to fully appreciate this mixed-species habitat, which will include spring rock antelope and white storks."

Sixty-one percent of the zoo's March visitors showed up in the nine-day span that included spring break. Floyd is looking forward to the next few months.

"This is a really good indication of how the year is going to go, and we're really excited for people to come out to the zoo and see our temporary and new exhibits," Floyd said.

The zoo tallies annual attendance by fiscal years. With April, May and June to go, this year’s total is almost 416,000. The record is just under 670,000, set in 1997–98.
