Tulsa Would Take Big Hit from Trumpcare Changes to Tax Subsidies

Someone has crunched the numbers on the difference in tax subsidies between the Affordable Care Act and its possible replacement.

Trumpcare, Ryancare, the American Health Care Act ? whichever name you prefer for congressional Republicans’ plan to replace the Affordable Care Act, as currently written, it will cost the average Tulsan $3,225 in tax subsidies.

"Of all the large cities analyzed, Tulsa is actually the most negatively affected. Overall, this was looking at over 450 cities, Tulsa ranks 19th," said WalletHub analyst Jill Gonzalez.

Tulsa’s average Affordable Care Act subsidy is $8,225. Its replacement would lower that to $5,000.

"Trumpcare is only categorizing subsidies by age, whereas Obamacare looked at a mix of income, age and location," Gonzalez said.

The city set for the biggest overall decrease in tax subsidies if the American Health Care Act is passed is Yuma, Ariz. Its average subsidy would drop from $12,815 under the Affordable Care Act to $5,000.
