Tulsa on Pace for Record Number of Slayings

File Graphic

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — The city of Tulsa is on pace to match a dubious record — the number of homicides in the city during a single year.

The Tulsa World reports that the 55 homicides in the city from January 1st through October 31st matches the number during the same time period in both 2009 and 2003 — the two years that had the most slayings in the city.

The record number of homicides in Tulsa in one year is 71 set in 2009. Second is the 69 homicides in 2003.

There were 46 slayings in Tulsa during all of 2012.

Deputy Police Chief Dennis Larsen says residents should be aware of their surroundings and not put themselves in dangerous situations.
