Tulsa Opera's Carmen! This Week on Performance Oklahoma

From Tulsa Opera's final main stage production this season offered on Friday, May 2nd and Sunday, May 4th at Chapman Music Hall in the Tulsa Performing Arts Center it's Georges Bizet's irresistible drama Carmen! Starring mezzo-soprano Leann-Sandel-Pantaleo in the title role, tenor Jonathan Burton as Don José, baritone Richard Ollarsaba as Escamillo and soprano Karin Wolverton as Micaëla, the season finale directed by Dean Anthony also features the Tulsa Opera's talented Young Artists, guest conductor Robert Tweten, the Tulsa Opera Chorus, members of the Tulsa Youth Opera and Tulsa Opera Orchestra.

The opera maintains a unique place in western music culture as one of the most recognizable and frequently performed operas; Georges Bizet creating a theatrical work that met all of the formal operatic standards of the time yet simultaneously expanded the possibilities of what could be shown on stage and depicted in music. Guest conductor Robert Tweten talks about the brilliant scoring and performance challenges, the cast leads offer fascinating insights into their roles both in terms of singing and character, artistic director Kostis Protopapas provides a preview of Tulsa Opera's upcoming 67th anniversary season and more!
