Tulsa, OK – Council hears plan on Olympics bid

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A committee has presented city leaders with a pitch to make a bid to host the 2020 summer Olympic games.

The Tulsa 2020 Committee on Tuesday told city councilors it would raise private funds to conduct a campaign, but it would need the mayor and council's approval to apply.

The committee is holding off until the Oct. 2 decision on which city will host the 2016 summer games. If the games go to Chicago, the games wouldn't come back to the U.S. in 2020.

Much of the committee's presentation focused on the similarities between Tulsa now and Atlanta in the early 1990s when it was making its bid to host an Olympics.

Atlanta was awarded the 1996 summer games.
