Tulsa Man Paralyzed by Security Guard Dies

Facebook

A 21-year-old Tulsa man who was shot by a security guard at an apartment complex in February has died, family members confirmed Wednesday.

Stepfather Johnny Magness said Monroe Bird was hospitalized Tuesday morning after a blood clot in his leg caused a pulmonary thromboembolism. The Tulsa World reports that the paralyzed man was taken to Saint Francis Hospital for treatment, where he later died.

Security guard Ricky Stone had told police in February that he shot Bird in the neck at Deerfield Estates after Bird attempted to back a car into him. The Tulsa County District Attorney's Office had determined that Stone's actions were justified.
