Tulsa Lawmaker fails to override Fallin's veto of bill

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A state lawmaker has tried unsuccessfully to override a veto of his bill by Republican Governor Mary Fallin.

Democratic Representative Eric Proctor of Tulsa attempted the veto override on Monday, but his motion was tabled in the Republican-controlled House.

Fallin last week vetoed the measure that would have protected the owners of mobile home parks from civil liability if they allowed residents to take shelter in their office during severe weather. She noted in her veto message the bill treats mobile home park owners differently than other business owners and does nothing to encourage businesses to offer a safer environment.

Republican Senator Brian Crain of Tulsa, who co-authored the bill, says he was disappointed with the governor's veto and that he believes the bill can save lives.
