Hot Springs, Ark. – Ark county jail group to visit Tulsa, Fayetteville

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) A group overseeing a Garland County jail project plans to visit jails in Tulsa, Okla., and Fayetteville to study operations at those facilities.

The Hot Springs Sentinel-Record reports the county's Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee will travel to Tulsa on Wednesday to see the Tulsa County jail, then tour the Washington County jail in Fayetteville on Thursday.

Committee chairman Bud West says the Tulsa jail is a direct-supervision jail, while the Washington County jail's inmates are indirectly supervised. He says the committee members will benefit from seeing both types of jails.

The committee's trip comes about a week after the county's Quorum Court indefinitely delayed setting an election for a proposed tax to fund a new jail. The Quorum Court cited lingering questions about the jail project.
