Tulsa has guidelines for its neighborhood watchers

Citizens Crime Commission-Tulsa

The Tulsa Alert Neighbors program has strict policies regarding confronting a suspect. National attention has been focused on Florida following the fatal shooting on an unarmed teenager by a neighborhood watch captain.

Tulsa’s Citizens Crime Commission Director Carol Bush says Tulsa has had a very successful program and they have never had anything even remotely similar to the Florida incident which claimed the life Trayvon Martin.

Bush says they NEVER want an Alert Neighbor to confront a suspect. She says they instruct volunteers on their program to observe, take notes and call authorities.

The Tulsa Citizen Crime Commission has operated Crime Stoppers and the Alert Neighbor program in Tulsa for 41-years.
