Tulsa Group Erects Nativity Scene at Governor's Mansion

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) ?? Gov. Mary Fallin is having a nativity scene erected on the lawn outside the governor's mansion.

A Tulsa woman who formed the Nativity Committee of Tulsa requested the scene be displayed at the Capitol, but Fallin offered to have it put up on the mansion lawn.

Kathie Jackson of Tulsa says she reached out to the American Nativity Scene Committee, which is dedicated to displaying the scenes at every Capitol in the country.

A lawsuit already is pending in Oklahoma over a Ten Commandments monument that was erected at the Capitol. That display prompted a group of Satanists and others to request their own statues for the statehouse lawn.

Fallin spokesman Alex Weintz says the governor has had a nativity scene at the mansion before and that it's "absolutely appropriate."
