OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A candidate for district attorney in Tulsa County has asked the Oklahoma Supreme Court to decide a challenge to his candidacy by his opponent.
Oral presentations were made Wednesday to a Supreme Court referee in the dispute between Tulsa County Assistant District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler and state Rep. Fred Jordan.
Kunzweiler filed a lawsuit last month challenging Jordan's candidacy. It alleges Jordan isn't eligible to serve because of a pay increase for district attorneys that was approved by the Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Mary Fallin. The state constitution prohibits lawmakers from serving in a position for which salaries have been increased during their term of office.
Jordan says his term ends in November, while the increase goes into effect in January.
