The Oklahoma Department of Corrections met its self-imposed deadline of last Friday for getting all the inmates out of a contract Tulsa half-way house. The DOC announced earlier this month that it would remove all of the inmates from the Avalon facility near Archer and North Denver Avenue in downtown Tulsa.
The Department took the action after allegations of management condoned fights at the private facility. The state had about 200-inmates house at the Tulsa facility. DOC spokesman Jerry Massie confirms that all state prisoners have now been removed.
About 50 of the 200 inmates were able to stay in the Tulsa area at facilities in Tulsa and Osage Counties. The rest of the inmates have been scattered across the state.
