TU Theatre Presents Noel Coward's "Hay Fever"
By Rich Fisher
Tulsa, Oklahoma – On today's program, we speak with Lisa Wilson, longtime member of the TU Theatre Department faculty, who's directing "Hay Fever," the classic Noel Coward comedy, which the Department will stage in Kendall Hall on the TU campus from Thursday the 3rd through Sunday the 6th. One of the great comic talents in the whole history of British stage and song, Coward (1899-1973) was especially gifted a creating the so-called comedy of manners, and "Hay Fever" (first produced in 1925) is a supreme example of such. In this play, which is set in an English country house over single weekend, we as viewers get to know the four highly eccentric members of the Bliss family --- and as Wilson tells us on today's StudioTulsa, in watching this play unfold, we can't help but see how so much of today's TV sit-com format (in terms of both form and content) comes right out of classic comedies like "Hay Fever."
