TU President Retiring Again at the End of 2016

University of Tulsa

University of Tulsa President Steadman Upham will retire at the end of 2016 after a four-year second tenure.

Upham was first hired as TU president in 2004. He was previously president and CEO of Claremont Graduate University in Southern California.

When he retired in June 2012, former Southern Methodist University Lyle School of Engineering Dean Geoffrey Orsak replaced him.

Orsak was fired after 74 days, and TU's trustees called on Upham to return.

"The last time we tried this, it didn't take," Upham said of himself and his wife, Peggy, in a video announcing his retirement. "But we agree that after 12 incredible years at TU, it is a good time for us to wind down and make way for new energy and new ideas."

TU's Board of Trustees will lead the search for Upham's replacement, who will be the university's 20th president. Upham said all university members' input is welcome, and a process for receiving it will be unveiled soon.
