Tulsa, OK – Murder trial of ex-Tulsa teacher again delayed

TULSA, Okla. (AP) The murder trial of a former Tulsa high school teacher in death of his wife is being delayed after he is changing attorneys for a fifth time.

John Kastner was to go on trial Monday for first-degree murder in the shooting death of 44-year-old Lori Kastner in June 2008. He says an intruder broke into his home and shot her as she slept then shot him in the hand as the two fought.

Defense attorney John Byrd said in December he would use an insanity defense. Kastner wrote in a letter to the judge that he doesn't want an insanity defense because he's innocent.

The judge appointed the Public Defender's office to represent Kastner and scheduled a Jan. 25 hearing at which a new trial date could be set.
