Traffic Information Boards Coming to Tulsa Sooner Than Anticipated

ODOT

An ODOT driver information project years in the making will come to Tulsa sooner than expected.

Spokeswoman Terri Angier said their dynamic messaging boards will come to Tulsa early next year rather than late summer.

"They'll give you a sense of whether there's congestion or not based on the travel times, and it really is able to help drivers to make better choices in terms of it's a huge congestion to be able to get off the highway," Angier said.

The boards will soon relay real-time traffic information to Oklahoma City drivers. Angier said there’s enough confidence in the system to bring it to Tulsa sooner than originally planned.

"Depending on how it goes here in Oklahoma City in the next few weeks, we'll have a better plan, but we have expedited the Tulsa part to happen early 2015 as of right now instead of mid-2015," Angier said.

Tulsa has 19 message boards already in place, though right now they display emergency alerts instead of traffic information. They’ll display traffic information around morning and afternoon rush hours.
