Tipsy Tow offers drivers safe option
By Catherine Roberts
Tulsa, Okla. – AAA Oklahoma will be making holiday weekend driving safer for partiers and non-partiers alike. This year, it extends its Tipsy Tow service to Memorial Day.
Tipsy Tow offers a free ride and tow for up to two people and a vehicle stranded after drinking.
AAA Oklahoma Vice President for Public Affairs Chuck Mai calls Tipsy Tow "a means to do something positive to help the drinking driver and at the same time keep the roads safer."
The service begins 6 p.m. Friday and ends midnight Monday evening.
Tipsy Tow is available most major holidays, including those, like Saint Patrick's Day, known for a tradition of drinking. Service is available in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Lawton, Enid, Ardmore, Shawnee and Muskogee.
"Eventually," Mai said, "we'd like to cover all 365 days of the year, because we know that people do take that chance, and they drive after drinking when really they shouldn't. Forty percent of all motor vehicle crashes over holidays involve alcohol."
To use Tipsy Tow, call 800-AAA-HELP and ask for Tipsy Tow. Service is free to AAA members and non-members alike, with no questions asked. While it will go anywhere within a 15-mile radius of pickup, it will only take you home.
