Tightening Vaccination Rules Could Be Ahead in Oklahoma

File Photo

Oklahoma requires school children to b e vaccinated for 11 different communicable diseases… but parents can opt-out of the law for religious or other reasons. State Senator Ervin Yen, who is a practicing physician, says our immunization rate is one of the lowest in the country.

Oklahoma is tied with several other states at 90%. Only Arkansas is lower at 89%.

Yen plans to introduce legislation in the new session of the legislature to tighten the opt-out loop holes. He fears we are are putting the public’s safety at risk.
