Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa Police Report:
On Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 5:37 a.m. officers were dispatched to the area of the rock quarry at 12900 E. 46th Street North, to check for an injury collision in the area. EMSA had received a cell phone call from one of the victims who said that she and her friends were involved in an injury collision at or near the quarry. Officers located a Nissan Titan pick-up truck at the bottom of a mining pit just north of the intersection of 4600 N. 129th E. Avenue. The collision resulted in the deaths of three of the four occupants of the vehicle.
At about 3:35 a.m. officers had received a call in the same area reference to a vehicle involved in a possible injury collision, however they were unable to locate anything due to darkness and no visible signs of a vehicle or a collision.
The sole survivor of this fatality collision called 911 at 5:33 a.m. which resulted in officers and EMSA locating the collision on the floor of one of the mining pits inside the quarry.
The preliminary investigation reveals that the driver (deceased) of the pick-up truck and the other three passengers had been drinking and were travelling at a very high rate of speed northbound on North 129th East Avenue. As they approached the intersection they drove through the stop sign and continued north onto the quarry site . The truck drove through a gate located on the north side of the intersection then travelled up a slight incline which catapulted the truck over two boulders , striking them. The boulders were being used as barricades to prevent vehicles from driving into the mining pit. The truck then travelled through the air for over approximately 200 feet where it landed and struck two more boulders that were being used as barriers on the east side of the mining pit. The truck eventually landed at the bottom of the pit. It appears that all the occupants were ejected from the vehicle at that time.
Three of the occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. Troy Adams, dob: 11-30-84, Mark Gaches, dob: 09-07-80 and Andrea Merriman, dob:06-13-88. The sole survivor of the collision Amanda Stone, dob: 08-19-90 was taken St. John's hospital in serious condition. At the time of this report she is expected to recover.
All four occupants of the vehicle were from the Cleveland, Oklahoma area. .
