Tulsa, OK – For the first time in decades, Tulsa has a taxi-cab stand somewhere other than the airport. The stand is in the bar district at 18th and Boston.

Tulsa Police Captain Jonathan Brooks likes the idea. He believes it could cut down on the number of drunk drivers from the area.

Other parts of town are expected to have stands soon. City Planner Theron Warlick says Brookside and the Blue Dome areas have expressed an interest.

Mayor Bartlett would like to see the taxi stands in operation by the start of the N-C-double-A tournament. The tournament begins a week from Friday.
