Tulsa, Oklahoma – Our guest for today's program is Tony Knowles, the former, two-term Governor of Alaska. Knowles was born and raised in Tulsa, and was recently named President of the National Energy Policy Institute, which is funded by the George Kaiser Family Foundation. This institute, as Knowles explains, is dedicated to coming up with comprehensive energy policies that can be recommended to all levels of government at this critical time in the life of our nation's --- and our planet's --- energy reserves. With oil making up 90 percent of Alaska's revenues, Knowles has long been seen as an energy expert. (He first moved up to Alaska in the late 1960s.) Knowles is visiting the TU campus today in order to deliver the 2nd Annual Chesapeake Energy Lecture at the University of Tulsa College of Law. He and host Rich Fisher speak on today's edition of StudioTulsa about the newly established National Energy Policy Institute --- and about various contemporary questions concerning America's energy independence, sustainability both here and abroad, and "green" policies and politics.
