Suspension Stands

Oologah, OK – Judge refuses to reinstate suspended Okla. student

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A federal judge is refusing to order the Oologah-Talala school district to reinstate a suspended eighth-grader.

U.S. District Judge Gregory Frizzell ruled Thursday that 14-year-old Elora Connelly will not be "irreparably harmed" if she isn't allowed to attend classes before the end of the school year.

Connelly was suspended for 13 weeks in February after officials say they found marijuana residue in her jacket. The girl denies possessing marijuana and says she often loaned the jacket to friends.

She said she is taking online courses and is on pace to enter the ninth grade next year and Frizzell said he hopes a lawsuit over the suspension is resolved by then.
