Suspected Killer Back in Custody

Oklahoma-DOC

DURANT, Okla. (AP) — A suspected killer who escaped a state prison is now back in custody.

Oklahoma Department of Corrections spokesman Jerry Massie told the Lawton Constitution that 28-year-old Robert Long was recaptured Thursday night after being found on a train in Durant.

Long had disappeared from the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center in McAlester before a 10 p.m. head count on Tuesday. Massie says Long pushed a window screen out and walked away from the minimum-security facility where he was serving time for drug and weapons convictions.

He was charged December 5th with first-degree murder in the March shooting death of Johnny Allen at a motel in Lawton.

Massie said that because of the escape and the recent murder charge Long will now be taken to a maximum-security prison.
