TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Nearly three months after the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame saved itself from near eviction by raising more than $75,000 to pay off long-overdue debts, the struggling nonprofit has been hit with another sizeable bill.
Tulsa County commissioners have sent the museum an invoice totaling nearly $12,000 for legal expenses the county racked up as it attempted for months to get the hall to pay what it owed in overdue assessments, insurance and utility bills.
Hall of Fame CEO Jason McIntosh questioned the large sum and says he'll ask the county for an itemized list detailing the costs.
County Commissioner Karen Keith says the legal services were necessary because the county has a responsibility to taxpayers to make sure the hall paid what it owed.
