Storm Shuts Down OKC Airport

By Associated Press

Oklahoma City, OK – Winter storm closes OKC airport

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Heavy snow forced officials at Oklahoma's largest airport to shut it down.

Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City was closed to aircraft operations Friday afternoon. Airport spokeswoman Karen Carney says heavy snowfall and poor visibility prevented airport maintenance crews from keeping runways and taxiways clear.

Airlines canceled most of their flights on Thursday and Friday morning due to the winter storm. But Carney says two flights had arrived and one had taken off before the airport was shut down.

Airlines are working with ticketed passengers to reschedule their flights. Carney says all other travelers should check with their airlines for additional cancellations or changes.
