Tulsa, OK – Old computer stolen, holds hospital patient info

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Officials of St. Francis Health System at Tulsa say the theft of an old computer from storage in Broken Arrow has put thousands of patients at risk of their personal information getting out.

Health records, addresses and Social Security numbers of 84,000 patients treated before 2004 were in the computer's memory.

The Tulsa World reports that affected former patients have been sent letters laying out precautions to take and offering a free credit-monitoring program.

Hospital officials say so far they've received no reports of identity theft involving information on the stolen computer.

The computer was stolen on Jan. 14.
